Light Weight Concrete
BDR LiteCrete
BDR LiteCrete is a next-generation lightweight concrete developed by introducing controlled foam into the concrete matrix. The foam is generated separately using a synthetic-based air-entraining agent and a foam generator.
The entrained air creates uniformly distributed micro-bubbles within the concrete, significantly reducing its density and overall dead weight when compared to conventional concrete, while maintaining adequate strength for non-structural applications.
Applications
- Lightweight topping over roof slabs
- Thermal insulation layer on rooftops
- Sound insulation layer over intermediate slabs
- Filling of sunken slabs in toilets after pipeline installation
- Screed concrete layer over raceways in commercial buildings
- Filling of trenches in roadways
- Filling of cable trenches that may require future access for repairs
Advantages
- Low density with high workability
- No mechanical compaction required
- Superior thermal and acoustic insulation properties
- Reduces dead load on the structure
- Accelerated setting and reduced execution time
- Cost-effective solution
- Minimal water leakage due to lower permeability
Technical Properties
- Minimum Density: ~ 1000 kg/m³ (approx.)
- Cement Type: Compatible with any cement combination
- Aggregate Size: No coarse aggregates used
- Workability: Collapse (self-leveling nature)
- Strength Class: 2–5 MPa at 28 days
Special Instructions
- Use low pumping pressures to prevent loss of entrained air
- Not recommended for wearing or traffic-bearing surfaces
- Concrete must be placed within the stipulated design time
